History of Hutto
Hutto began developing around a railroad stop established in 1876 between Taylor and Round Rock. The stop was named after local cattle rancher James Emory Hutto, and the town was formally platted the following year.
Hutto was incorporated in 1911. Its early economy was closely connected to farming, ranching, rail transportation, and local commerce. The city later experienced substantial residential and commercial growth as the Austin metropolitan area expanded.
