History of Leander

Before Leander was established, a nearby settlement called Bagdad developed west of the present city. When the Austin and Northwest Railroad bypassed Bagdad in the early 1880s, residents and businesses moved closer to the new rail station.

The new community was named Leander after railroad official and former Austin mayor Leander Brown. The city later expanded as the Austin metropolitan area grew northwest. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}
